Short Answer
Use Thrust Stance when range and alignment are the real problems. It is best for bosses that backstep, lunge past you, or leave a narrow lane after an attack. It is not a close-range scramble stance, so the build rewards patience more than aggression.
Target Player State
This build is for players who keep arriving one step short after a dodge. If Smash misses because the boss drifts away, or if Pillar feels too committed for the opening, Thrust can convert the space into damage.
Build Path
- Main stance: invest in Thrust after you already understand basic Focus timing.
- Backup stance: keep Smash for close scrambles and short punish windows.
- Spells: use Immobilize to guarantee alignment; use Cloud Step to create a cleaner lane.
- Spirit: choose a quick hit that does not ruin spacing.
- Gear: favor stamina because patient positioning still requires dodges and re-entry.
- Transformation: use forms that handle chaos when Thrust cannot stay lined up.
The build fails when every opening becomes a forced thrust. Wait for the lane, then commit.
Rotation
Hold mid range until the boss attacks through or past you. Dodge to maintain alignment, charge or prepare the thrust only when the boss is recovering, then cash out and reset. If you need Immobilize, cast from a range where the thrust follow-up is immediate.
Cloud Step can create a clean re-entry angle. Use it to escape a bad side position, reappear in line with the boss, and take the thrust punish only if the target is still committed.
Strong Matchups
Thrust is strong against bosses that retreat just beyond normal reach, expose a straight lane after lunges, or punish close-range greed with wide sweeps. It also helps against large enemies whose weak spots are easier to hit from a controlled line.
It is weak in cramped arenas, against erratic small targets, and during multi-enemy route fights where alignment breaks constantly. In those cases, Smash or a spell reset is usually safer.
When To Swap Away
Swap away if you are spending more time lining up than attacking, if every thrust whiffs because the boss moves sideways, or if the arena does not allow clean spacing. Return to Smash for close recoveries and Pillar for ground-pressure problems.
Recovery Plan
If Thrust misses, check your lane first. If the boss was not aligned, wait longer or use Cloud Step. If the boss moved after Immobilize ended, shorten the setup. If you are hit while charging, stop charging on uncertain openings and use a normal punish until the fight slows down.
