Short Answer
A Spirit damage build is about landing one reliable move at the right time. Pick the Spirit that solves the fight: interrupt pressure, add burst after Immobilize, recover during a route, or create space for a heal. Rarity matters less than whether the Spirit lands safely.
Target Player State
Use this build when your stance and spells are stable but your Spirit slot feels random. It is also useful when a boss gives one short punish window and you need a quick effect that does not require a full transformation commitment.
Build Path
- Spirit role: choose interrupt, burst, recovery, or spacing before choosing the Spirit.
- Spell pairing: use Immobilize or a knockdown to make slower Spirits safe.
- Stance pairing: pick a stance cashout that follows the Spirit without overextending.
- Gear: support the problem the Spirit solves, such as defense for close interrupts or damage for burst.
- Transformation: keep it separate; do not use transformation as a substitute for a Spirit window.
Treat the Spirit as a planned button. If you cannot say when it is used, it is not part of the build yet.
Rotation
Open with ordinary stance play. When the boss enters the recovery you are targeting, use Immobilize or a safe dodge to create the window, then fire the Spirit. Follow with a short combo only if the Spirit leaves the boss punishable. If the Spirit is meant for survival, use it to stop pressure or make space, then heal or reset instead of chasing damage.
For route play, spend the Spirit on enemies that would otherwise cost gourd. Saving it forever and arriving at the boss already damaged defeats the point.
Strong Matchups
Spirit builds are strong against bosses with short but repeatable recovery windows. They also help in routes where one elite enemy keeps draining healing before the real fight.
They are weak when the Spirit animation is too slow, the boss moves out of range, or the effect does not change the attempt. A powerful Spirit that whiffs is worse than a modest Spirit that lands every time.
When To Swap Away
Swap Spirits when the role changes. If you are dying to pressure, use interrupt or spacing. If you are reaching late phases cleanly but need damage, use burst. If the Spirit never lands, choose a faster one or use it only after Immobilize. If the whole fight revolves around a long safe form, switch to a transformation build instead.
Recovery Plan
After a miss, ask whether the problem was timing, range, or Spirit choice. Timing mistakes need a later trigger. Range mistakes need a closer setup or different stance. Spirit-choice mistakes need a faster or safer Spirit. Do not change the full build until the Spirit’s assigned job has been tested.
