Short Answer
Chapter 3 works best as five separate routes: Snowhill Path, Pagoda Realm, Bitter Lake, Valley of Ecstasy, and New Thunderclap Temple. Secure each shrine before chasing side paths, finish Pagoda Realm deliberately before judging the rest of the chapter, and save optional cleanup for moments when a nearby shrine makes the return cheap.
When This Helps
Use this route if The New West feels too long to hold in memory. The goal is not to spoil every branch. It is to keep the chapter ordered enough that you know which main gate you are solving, which optional path can wait, and when a return trip is worth it.
Route Order
- Snowhill Path: follow Frost-Clad Path and Mirrormere until the chapter opens properly. Treat Kang-Jin Loong as the first serious route check.
- Pagoda Realm: move from Lower Pagoda through Upper Pagoda toward Captain Wise-Voice. This is the chapter’s pressure test, so prioritize shrine memory and safe runbacks over side wandering.
- Bitter Lake: after the turtle route opens, use Turtle Island and North Shore as cleanup anchors. This is the natural time to note Chen Loong, Cyan Loong, and other shoreline detours.
- Valley of Ecstasy: use Forest of Felicity, Brook of Bliss, Towers of Karma, and Longevity Road as separate loops. Do not try to memorize the whole valley from one shrine.
- New Thunderclap Temple: enter from Temple Entrance, map the side rooms, then push toward Mahavira Hall when your gourd route is clean.
Step-By-Step Checklist
- Activate every Keeper’s Shrine before taking a boss attempt or optional fork.
- In Snowhill Path, clear the direct route first; return for optional checks after the first major roadblock is solved.
- In Pagoda Realm, learn one safe route from shrine to shrine, then decide whether optional cells and drops are worth the extra risk.
- After Captain Wise-Voice, revisit any Pagoda notes before the area fades from memory.
- At Bitter Lake, separate shoreline exploration from boss attempts. Chen Loong and Cyan Loong are optional return targets, not reasons to derail the main route.
- In Valley of Ecstasy, mark each shrine with a purpose: boss gate, optional boss, quest clue, or forward route.
- Before entering the final temple push, restock, spend Sparks, and test whether your spell loadout still answers mobile bosses.
Optional Detours And Return Timing
Chen Loong is worth noting as soon as you find him because his follow-up route affects long-term services. If you do not have the handoff item yet, write down the nearest shrine and move on.
Cyan Loong is a Loong Scales return fight. If the shock pressure feels too high, leave it until your Chapter 3 build is stable. Optional Loong fights are better as focused returns than exhausted detours after a long route.
The Treasure Hunter route and Fox route are best handled when you can follow their clue chain in one sitting. If you start one and then push several main bosses, your notes need shrine names, not vague labels like “snow NPC.”
The Great Pagoda should be activated when you first reach it, but its larger purpose belongs later. Treat it as a future return point rather than a puzzle you must solve immediately.
Underleveled Or Lost Recovery
If Pagoda Realm is draining you, stop pushing forward and make a shrine loop: clear one enemy group, return, then add one more room. If the route itself costs half your gourd, no boss build will feel fair.
If New Thunderclap Temple feels tangled, pick one visible landmark from Temple Entrance and return to the shrine after each branch. The temple has enough side rooms that “I was near a staircase” is not a useful note.
If damage feels low, confirm that you can reach the same boss phase three times in a row. If not, solve stamina, camera, or healing first. Chapter 3 punishes random build swaps because the routes are long enough to hide the real mistake.
Easy-To-Miss Checks
- Captain-related items in Pagoda Realm are easier to track before you leave the prison route behind.
- Bitter Lake optional bosses are safest after the nearest shrine is unlocked and you are not carrying route damage into the arena.
- Valley of Ecstasy side bosses can wait until the local shrine loop is familiar.
- The Great Pagoda is a return anchor. Activate it, then keep progressing unless you are intentionally doing late-game cleanup.
Quality Check Before Chapter 4
You are ready to leave Chapter 3 when you can name the shrine that anchors each major route, explain whether your Pagoda cleanup is complete enough for your goals, and enter the Chapter 3 finale with a clean spell and gourd plan. If you only remember “snow area” and “prison area,” do one more shrine review before moving on.
FAQ
Should I clear Pagoda Realm fully before continuing?
Clear enough that you are not leaving obvious captain or cell notes unresolved. Full collectible sweeping can wait, but route-critical memories are freshest before you move to Bitter Lake.
Is Chapter 3 linear?
It has a main route, but the side paths are spread across several distinct hubs. Treat each hub as its own checklist instead of trying to solve the whole chapter at once.
When should I use a full spoiler checklist?
Use one after you have seen the major areas yourself or when a named optional route is blocking a specific goal.
