Short Answer
Build Chapter 3 around survival before damage. Pagoda Realm, snowfield travel, and longer boss routes punish sloppy resource use more than low attack power. Use a dependable main stance, Cloud Step or Rock Solid as the Alteration answer, and a Spirit that helps you reset when the route or boss fight starts to snowball.
Target Player State
This build is for a first-playthrough player entering The New West who is losing gourd charges before the boss, falling into panic dodges in Pagoda Realm, or reaching Captain Wise-Voice with no clean resource plan.
You should already understand your main stance. If you are still unsure, keep Smash as the default and spend your mental energy on route safety and spell timing.
Build Path
- Stance: use one practiced stance for route enemies; add Pillar only where vertical safety helps.
- Alteration: choose Cloud Step if cliffs, ranged pressure, or bad corners are the problem.
- Counter option: choose Rock Solid only if you can name the attack you want to answer.
- Mysticism: keep Immobilize for elites or boss recovery windows, not ordinary route trash.
- Spirit: pick a fast, reliable Spirit over a flashy one that whiffs in narrow spaces.
- Gear: prioritize stamina, healing consistency, and resistance comfort over glass-cannon damage.
Pagoda Realm also rewards route discipline. Rest, learn the run, and decide whether to clear optional threats before Captain Wise-Voice removes Warden spawns from the area.
Rotation
For route sections, scout first and spend spells second. Move from shrine to shrine with stamina above panic range, use Cloud Step before a bad corner traps you, and let Immobilize stop a dangerous elite only when you are close enough to follow up.
For bosses, enter with a saved reset. Dodge the first pattern normally, confirm where the boss stops, then use Immobilize or Spirit on that recovery. If Captain Wise-Voice is the wall, treat the attempt as a rhythm fight: avoid rushing the weak point, keep camera discipline, and use spells to recover after the arena pressure rather than at random.
Matchups
Pagoda Realm enemies punish greed near ledges and narrow paths. Pillar can help in specific ground-pressure spots, but Cloud Step is often the safer answer when positioning fails.
Captain Wise-Voice is a required Pagoda Realm boss with a large arena rhythm. Bring a plan that can survive missed openings. Do not spend your full kit before you understand the knockdown and recovery cycle.
Kang-Jin Loong and other mobile Chapter 3 fights may make close-range greed feel bad. If your Smash punish keeps missing, test Thrust for cleaner straight-line answers or reduce your combo to a shorter cashout.
When To Swap Away
Swap away if you are reaching bosses with full gourd and dying only to damage checks. At that point, add a stronger Spirit, more aggressive stance investment, or a transformation that turns a known knockdown into burst. If the problem is one predictable hit, Rock Solid may replace Cloud Step. If the problem is route exhaustion, keep the survival build.
Recovery Plan
After a failed attempt, ask where the first gourd charge disappeared. If it vanished during the runback, rehearse the route and ignore damage upgrades. If it vanished during a boss combo, shorten punishes and save Alteration for that combo. If you are dying with spells unused, write down the exact attack that deserves the spell and wait for it next pull.
