Short Answer

Use this build once Chapter 2 opens into wider desert routes and bosses start punishing loose stamina. Keep Smash as the default stance, add Pillar or Thrust only for fights where reach or ground pressure is the issue, and save Wind Tamer for Yellow Wind Sage rather than treating it like a normal route tool.

The goal is not maximum damage. The goal is to reach the Chapter 2 finale with a setup that can handle long arenas, sudden charges, wind effects, and bosses that punish panic rolls.

Target Player State

This setup assumes you have cleared most early Chapter 2 shrines, can craft or upgrade a reasonable weapon for your current materials, and have enough Sparks to improve stamina, basic staff damage, and one main stance. You do not need a late-game armor set.

If Tiger Vanguard, Stone Vanguard, or Yellow Wind Sage is your wall, this build gives you a stable baseline before you start changing individual slots.

Build Path

  • Stance: keep Smash as the main plan unless the boss keeps ending outside your punish range.
  • Backup stance: use Pillar for awkward ground pressure or Thrust for straight-line openings.
  • Spells: keep Immobilize for confirmed punish windows and Cloud Step for bad corners or missed dodges.
  • Vessel: unlock and equip Wind Tamer before serious Yellow Wind Sage attempts.
  • Spirit: choose a quick Spirit you can land after Immobilize or a knockdown.
  • Armor and curios: favor stamina comfort, damage reduction, and status resistance before stacking risky damage.

Spend Sparks on stamina, dodge reliability, and your chosen stance before widening the build. A half-built stance plan plus weak stamina management is worse than a simple Smash plan you can repeat.

Rotation

Open Chapter 2 bosses with normal movement first. Let the boss show the charge, slam, or jump that creates the real opening. When the recovery is confirmed, use Immobilize, land a short combo, spend Focus if the hit is realistic, then back out before stamina reaches the danger point.

For Yellow Wind Sage, do not burn Wind Tamer just because it is ready. Hold it for the wind-heavy moment where you need control, safety, or a clean damage window. After activating it, convert the opening with your highest-confidence punish rather than starting a long sequence you have not practiced.

Boss Matchups

Tiger Vanguard rewards short, disciplined punishes. Stay close enough to answer recovery frames, but do not empty stamina into his next string.

Stone Vanguard asks for patience. Heavy stone attacks are readable, so keep enough stamina to dodge the delayed hit and punish after the commitment.

Yellow Wind Sage is the reason the build keeps Wind Tamer and recovery tools ready. Enter from a clean shrine reset, use medicines before the fight if they are part of your plan, and save your best control for the wind pressure rather than the first safe opening.

When To Swap Away

Swap away from this build if the boss is not killing you with wind, arena pressure, or stamina collapse. If you are losing because a target backs away constantly, shift more heavily into Thrust. If you are over-surviving but timing out long damage windows, add a burst Spirit or transformation. If you are dying with Wind Tamer unused, simplify the plan and assign the vessel to one named phase.

Recovery Plan

If the plan fails three attempts in a row, change only one thing. If stamina is empty when you get hit, remove a combo hit. If the Spirit misses, use it only after Immobilize. If Yellow Wind Sage reaches the wind-heavy section and you panic, practice holding Wind Tamer until that moment even if the early phase takes longer.
