Short Answer
Chapter 4 asks you to stop treating poison as background damage. Build around poison cures, clean shrine resets, short punishes, and one burst window saved for the optional bosses that do not give many safe heals.
The strongest version of this build is controlled, not passive. You bring enough defense to stay calm, then use Immobilize, Spirit, or transformation only when the boss is committed and the follow-up is guaranteed.
Target Player State
Use this setup when you are in Webbed Hollow, preparing for Temple of Yellow Flowers, or unlocking Purple Cloud Mountain through the Venom Daoist route. It is especially useful if Chapter 4 enemies are draining cures before the boss or if optional fights such as Scorpionlord are turning into messy poison trades.
Build Path
- Cures: stock poison answers before deep route attempts.
- Gear: favor poison resistance, stamina comfort, and healing consistency.
- Stance: use Smash for close punish windows; test Thrust when spiders or daoists retreat.
- Spells: keep Immobilize for confirmed recovery, not for every small enemy.
- Alteration: use Cloud Step when poison plus camera pressure forces a bad heal.
- Spirit: choose a fast stagger or interrupt Spirit that lands before the boss recovers.
- Transformation: save it for a phase you have already reached, not the opener.
If you are chasing Purple Cloud Mountain, treat the route as part of the build. Finish the Venom Daoist requirements deliberately, then reset before optional secret-area bosses.
Rotation
Enter route sections with cures assigned and do not wait until poison has already stacked into panic. Against mobs, play shorter strings and keep stamina for repositioning. Against bosses, dodge the first pattern, confirm the punish, then layer Immobilize into a short combo and Spirit hit.
If poison lands, decide immediately whether the attempt is still clean. Cure during a known gap or create one with Cloud Step. Do not keep attacking while poisoned just because the boss is close; Chapter 4 punishes that greed with missed heals and bad stamina.
Boss Matchups
Venom Daoist rewards clean reaction timing and route awareness. If you are trying to open Purple Cloud Mountain, keep the build consistent across both encounters so you are practicing the same dodge and punish rhythm.
Scorpionlord is a strong test for this setup. Bring poison control, avoid trading into claw and tail pressure, and save burst for a stagger or committed recovery.
Violet Spider and other Webbed Hollow bosses punish standing in bad angles. If the camera or webs are the real issue, Cloud Step and shorter strings matter more than another damage curio.
When To Swap Away
Swap away when poison is no longer part of the failure. If you are reaching late phases cleanly and dying only because the fight is too long, add damage or a heavier transformation plan. If the boss has long straight retreats, shift toward Thrust. If you cannot land spells because the target moves too often, reduce spell reliance and invest in stance timing.
Recovery Plan
If a fight collapses, identify the first preventable poison tick or panic heal. Move cure timing earlier, use Cloud Step for the heal window, or remove one attack from the punish. If the route drains your gourd before the boss, do not change boss gear yet; practice the shrine path until you arrive clean.
