Short Answer
Scorpionlord is a missable secret boss in Purple Cloud Mountain, Bounds of Deity’s Abode. Fight him before starting Duskveil. Break a jar near his drinking spot to trigger the duel, then play around poison tells, long attack strings, and short stagger windows rather than trying to trade.
Route And Unlock Context
Purple Cloud Mountain opens after the two Venom Daoist fights. Once inside, progress from Valley of Blooms to Bounds of Deity’s Abode. From that shrine, climb toward the drinking Scorpionlord and break one of the jars to start the fight.
The order matters. If you start the final Duskveil encounter before beating Scorpionlord, he can disappear and you lose access to his rewards for that playthrough. Clear Scorpionlord, then Daoist Mi if you have not done so, and only then move on to Duskveil.
Fight Plan
Scorpionlord is not a patience-only boss. If you give him the whole arena for free, his long strings and poison pressure will drain your gourd. The clean plan is to create stagger windows, use them fully, and leave before he restarts.
Open with a prepared burst: Immobilize after he commits, A Pluck of Many if you can keep him in range, and a hard-hitting Spirit or Wind Tamer to interrupt momentum. Between cooldowns, watch the claw and tail colors. The green tail and glowing claw are warnings to dodge, not invitations to finish your combo.
If you are using Smash Stance, Resolute Counterflow can turn his aggression into stagger, but only if you already know the timing. If the timing is inconsistent, Cloud Step is safer: use it to break a long string, reposition, and answer with Unveiling Strike when he finishes.
Moves To Respect
- Tail and claw tells: green or bright body-part tells mean a committed strike is coming. Dodge first.
- Long combo strings: do not roll once and punish automatically. Wait until the string actually ends.
- Poison pressure: cure after you create distance, not while he is still chaining.
- Jar trigger: prepare before breaking a jar; the fight begins from that action.
Recommended Setup
Bring Antimiasma Powder, a strong stagger Spirit, and either Cloud Step or Wind Tamer. A Pluck of Many is strong if cast early during a safe opening, but it can be wasted if Scorpionlord dashes out or forces you to kite.
Use consumables intentionally. This is one of Chapter 4’s hardest optional checks, so attack or defense medicines make sense once you have learned the opener and know you are on a real attempt.
Common Mistakes
- Going to Duskveil first and losing Scorpionlord access.
- Triggering the fight accidentally while unprepared.
- Trading into the glowing claw or tail because Scorpionlord is close to stagger.
- Cleansing poison in melee range during an unfinished string.
- Saving every cooldown until death instead of using stagger tools to stop his pressure.
Quality Check Before You Move On
Before leaving Bounds of Deity’s Abode, confirm Scorpionlord is defeated and his gourd and crafting rewards have been collected. Then finish Daoist Mi before advancing to Duskveil.
