Chapter three of Black Myth: Wukong does more than place Yellowbrow inside a counterfeit temple. The route makes the player cross the New West’s frozen approaches, prisons and monastic courts before entering New Thunderclap Temple. Named disciples and captured figures fill that journey. By the time Yellowbrow speaks from the great hall, his authority has already been expressed as geography: other lives, titles and paths have been reorganized around him.
Chapters 65 and 66 of Journey to the West provide a cleaner trap. The pilgrims see a Small Thunderclap Temple; Wukong warns that the route and ominous air are wrong, but Tang Sanzang bows and the party is captured. Yellowbrow uses the golden cymbals and the human-seed sack until Maitreya identifies him as a runaway attendant and retrieves the treasures. Black Myth: Wukong keeps the false sacred site, the two objects and Maitreya’s connection, but expands a short deception into an inhabited regime with followers, victims and a philosophy.
That expansion becomes playable during the finale. Yellowbrow does not merely explain that regime in dialogue. The encounter changes scale, interrupts ordinary control, returns the Destined One to captivity and makes the Macaque Chief part of the sequence. Yellowbrow’s golden body also turns apparent invulnerability into a combat problem. The player therefore meets his claim to mastery as repeated containment: temple, vessel, body and arena each try to define what action is possible.
YouTube creator EmpressXV reads chapter three primarily through power, while Bilibili creator 川同学不穿童鞋 concentrates on Yellowbrow’s motives and symbolic clues. Both approaches help connect the long route to its final ruler. They remain creator interpretations. The game confirms the places, captives, fights, dialogue and animation; it does not certify every proposed conspiracy, hidden allegiance or religious verdict. The Bilibili video’s own warning that much of its reconstruction is subjective is an important editorial boundary.
Our reading is that Black Myth: Wukong makes Yellowbrow’s false Buddha realm persuasive by turning it into a test he controls. The chapter-ending animation stages another argument about desire, with temptation arranged so that failure can be presented as proof. New Thunderclap Temple works the same way: Yellowbrow builds the conditions, captures the participants, then cites their struggle as confirmation of his worldview. Defeating him does not settle the chapter’s religious questions. It exposes the structure behind his certainty—power that writes the test, judges the answer and calls the result truth.
