How Black Myth: Wukong connects Erlang to an optional ending route

A game-first analysis of the secret areas, Great Pagoda murals, Mount Mei battles and added ending animation that form Wukong's hidden route.

The Erlang route in Black Myth: Wukong does not begin with a secret-boss icon appearing at the end of the game. It gathers progress from the optional areas in chapters one, two, four and five, together with the chapter-three quest at the melon field, and redirects that history toward the Great Pagoda in the New West. Once those optional threads are complete, the murals and Maitreya’s position turn the pagoda into a passage to Secret: Mount Mei. Finding Erlang therefore works as a review of the journey rather than an accidental fork on the final map.

The Great Pagoda acts like a visual save file. Choices made in separate chapters are not collected in a conventional quest checklist. They return as murals and as a change in the room itself. The safest claim is structural, not symbolic: each secret area first stands on its own, then becomes part of the state required to open Mount Mei. Exploration stops being a percentage on a completion screen and becomes the cause of a visible change in a place the player may have visited much earlier.

After the passage opens, Mount Mei sharply narrows the route. Broad searching gives way to a direct approach toward Erlang, the Sacred Divinity, and difficult combat becomes the narrative gate. The player must pass Erlang, the Four Heavenly Kings and the later large-scale sequence before receiving the route’s rewards and ending condition. Combat is not filler between two story scenes. It is the method by which the game asks the player to convert scattered exploration into endgame competence.

Shenzhouzi’s Bilibili video records the Great Pagoda, Mount Mei and the complete battle sequence without breaking the route into unrelated clips. That makes it useful evidence for when the entrance opens, how the locations connect and when rewards appear. It is footage of an observable path, not an official explanation of anyone’s motives. This article likewise does not turn the weapon, transformation or battle choreography into proof of Erlang’s unspoken plan. The images can establish how the route functions; they cannot settle lore the game leaves unstated.

Defeating Erlang also does not immediately replace the ending. After Mount Mei, the player still returns to the chapter-six finale. Only when the Great Sage’s Broken Shell is defeated again does the additional ending animation change how the conclusion is framed. The order links information across two acts: complete optional trials distributed through the earlier chapters, survive Mount Mei, then bring what was gained back to the main ending and reconsider what inheritance means.

The route’s clearest achievement is therefore not hiding a “true ending” behind one riddle answer. It makes the player’s own itinerary into the key. Secret areas supply the pieces, the Great Pagoda makes them visible, Mount Mei tests the preparation in combat, and the finale brings the result back into the main story. Every link can be checked in the released game and continuous gameplay footage. How much Erlang planned in advance, and how much each character knows, remains only partly stated and should remain open rather than being promoted from interpretation to fact.
