Short Answer
Giant Shigandang is an optional Chapter 6 Yaoguai King in the Foothills. It only appears if you have the four earlier Skandha key items, and the fight is not a normal close-range duel. Keep your distance, jump the shockwaves, wait for the giant to expose its fists, and break the blue crystals to deal real damage.
Route And Unlock Context
Start from Verdant Path after Somersault Cloud is available. Fly north, turn into the valley behind the western stone-boss route, and follow the canyon toward the huge arena. If Giant Shigandang does not appear, you are probably missing one of the four Skandhas from earlier chapters.
This boss is not part of the Wukong armor-piece route. Handle it when you want the Skandha of Consciousness and optional completion, not when you are trying to finish the required armor loop quickly.
Fight Plan
Stay away from the body. Giant Shigandang is too large to fight like a normal boss, and trying to attack the torso mostly gets you clipped by sweeps, vacuum movement, or shockwaves. Your goal is to survive until a fist lands and the blue crystals are reachable.
When the fist is exposed, move in with decisive heavy attacks and leave once the window is over. Breaking the crystals is what chunks the boss’s health, so spend Focus there rather than on random ankle hits.
The recovery rhythm is slow, but the damage is severe. If you jump a shockwave too early, reset your spacing instead of trying to heal near the hand. Distance gives you more time to read the next sweep and keeps the camera manageable.
Moves To Respect
- Sweeping arm attacks: stay outside the wide arc until the hand settles.
- Arena shockwaves: jump late enough to clear the wave; heal only after landing safely.
- Vacuum pull: move away and reorient because the pull can ruin your spacing.
- Fist crystal window: attack the blue crystals quickly, then back out.
- Arm climb after victory: walk up the arm after the fight to trigger the reward sequence.
Recommended Setup
Use a setup with reliable heavy-attack damage and stamina comfort. Thrust or Smash heavy attacks work well when the fist crystal is exposed. Long Spirit animations are risky unless the fist is already down and the crystal is in front of you.
Do not overbuild for status effects here. The fight is mostly about spacing, jumps, and hitting the correct target during a limited window.
Common Mistakes
- Entering without the required Skandhas and thinking the boss route is bugged.
- Trying to hit the main body instead of the blue fist crystals.
- Healing close to the arm after a shockwave.
- Jumping every shockwave early because the tell feels slow.
- Leaving after the health bar ends without walking up the arm for the key item.
Quality Check Before You Move On
You are finished when the cutscene after climbing the arm awards the Skandha of Consciousness. If you came here during armor cleanup, return to the central Foothills route and continue the required Chapter 6 bosses afterward.
FAQ
Why will Giant Shigandang not spawn?
You need the four earlier Skandha key items. Without them, the Chapter 6 encounter does not activate.
Where do I deal damage?
Damage comes from breaking the blue crystals on the exposed fists after the giant commits to certain attacks.
Is Giant Shigandang required for the ending route?
No. It is optional and tied to the Skandha reward path, separate from the four armor-piece bosses.
